I work for Kenn Borek Air Ltd out of Calgary. With bases in Western Canada, the Arctic, and the Maldives, and with contracts all over the world including Antarctica, Borek offers exciting opportunities. Initially trained on the Bandit, I now fly the Twin Otter. I enjoy the work, and the rotation schedule allows me flexibility in where I live.
My advice to students is to take pleasure in learning because it never stops. Southern Skies will do a great job of teaching you many essentials, but bear in mind that a lot more learning has to happen beyond the classroom under your own steam. There is so much more to being a pilot than just controlling an aircraft, so spread your net wide. Also, be aware you start building your reputation the day you enter flight school. Your friends and instructors today will be your colleagues and captains tomorrow, so make sure this is to your advantage.

I am currently flying a Beech 1900D as first officer with Central Mountain Air. Holding a Calgary base, I fly scheduled service flights to Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Cranbrook, Lloydminster, Fort St John, Fort Nelson, Edmonton, High Level and Rainbow Lake. Charters can always be an adventure, and often take us into much more remote settings. I thoroughly enjoy the challenges of winter weather flying, IFR experience and numerous take off and landings each day brings. I cannot help but feel lucky each time I pop up out of a cloud layer into beautiful clear blue skies! Another Day at the office!
Flying Wisdom: I was very lucky to have many great instructors and role models as I trained to become a pilot. I still have many great instructors and role models today, and plan to for the entire length of my flying career. I feel it is incredibly important to remember you can never know it all when it comes to aviation. Two pieces of advise I have been given I constantly remember:
"When you feel you have learned it all or have stopped wanting to learn, it's time to retire", and "Know you know what your doing"...there's not much time or many resources to help you out when you're in a sticky situation. We best be prepared!

I spend summers giving glider plane tours in BC's Coast Range, as well as towing the giders with a Citabria 7GCBC 180hp.
It's fantastic to share my flying passion with others and excellent hands on flying experience.
