1. Age - Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age, or a Grade 12 graduate or equivalent.
2. Citizenship - Applicant must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for flight training.
3. Medical - Applicant must hold a valid Transport Canada Category1, 2 or 3 Aviation Medical certificate issued by a Transport Canada approved Aviation Medical Examiner.
4. License - Applicant must have a valid Canadian Private Pilot License or higher, with 50 hours Pilot-in-Command cross country.
5. Interview - Applicant must have an interview with the Chief Flight Instructor or delegate.

Applicant must satisfy all training criteria as outlined in the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).

1. Ground School:
1. Southern Skies Aviation offers a 50 to 60 hour school
2. Applicant must obtain a minimum of 70% on the Transport Canada written examination Instrument Rating (INRAT)
2. Flight Training:
1. For Group 1 Instrument Rating: Dual instruction on a Piper Aztec
   For Group 3 Instrument Rating: Dual instruction on a Cessna 172
2. Applicant must have accumulated the following minimums: 40 hours instrument flight time, 20 of which may be in a flight simulator.
3. Applicant must pass a practical flight test conducted by a Transport Canada Designated Flight Test Examiner.

The following cost breakdown is based on Transport Canada minimum requirements and includes applicable taxes. Student proficiency will vary. Hours in excess of those listed here must be paid for by the student at the rates listed.
